Install a firmware patch with *.frm extension

Hi all,

I need to install a patch to update the STM, EMS and GSP on a production server here...I talked directly with HP and they told me to install this patch: PF_CRHW4428.frm. I know when installing "normal" patches i have to shar the file first...how do I "shar" this file, and then install...thanks...

VERIFYING FIRMWARE REVISION WITH ON-LINE DIAGNOSTICS

The current revision of Firmware can be determined using on-line
diagnostics. If on-line diagnostics are not present on your
system, use the BOOT CONSOLE HANDLER procedure to verify the
current revision.

Procedure for all systems
1. Login as root
2. At the prompt, enter 'mstm'
3. Press f2 (ok)
4. Move the cursor to "CPU"
5. Press f3 (select)
6. Press f4 (menu bar on)
7. Enter "T" to select Tool Menu
8. Enter "I" to select Information Mode
9. Enter "R" to Run
After a few seconds, the Information Tool Log for
the CPU will be displayed. The 'PDC Firmware
Revision' is displayed in the first column.
10. Note the PDC Firmware value
11. Press f8 (done)
12. Press f8 (exit)
13. Press f2 (ok)

If the revision is not 44.28, your system will require
a Firmware update. Skip the next section, and follow the
instructions for CREATING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE TAPE.

Re: Install a firmware patch with *.frm extension

I missed this:

Equivalent Patches:
PHSS_31800:
s700: 11.00
s800: 11.00

PHSS_31801:
s700: 11.11
s800: 11.11

That is a normal patch that can and should be downloaded and installed.

It should be installed all by itself, with no other patches and part of no patch depot.

Re: Install a firmware patch with *.frm extension

SEP,

thanks...I'll need to schedule some downtime to do these installs...so, I won't be able to try this until then...but, it looks like this will work.

I appreciate it.

Re: Install a firmware patch with *.frm extension

Ok, I didn't read your instructions thoroughly enough...it was just telling you how to find the PDC firmware revision. The last step stating if it's not version 44.38(?) go to the next step of "creating a firmware tape". Ok...well it's not version 44.38, it's 41.39. Where do I go from here...to create this tape??

Thanks,
Chet
