Re: install DVD-ROM in server
Jairo,
Typically a reboot should recognize the new hardware and the only question is whether you have the driver present in the kernel or not. What does ioscan show?

Re: install DVD-ROM in server
1) Make sure the scsi id on the drive is set to the same scsi id as the drive you are removing. If its a new install, run ioscan and make sure you don't set the scsi id the same as another device.
2) After the device shows up on ioscan, you're pretty much all set, ioscan runs at boot time, but you can make it show up with:
ioscan -fnC disk
You might be able to get it recognized with a command I stole from Pete Randall this morning.
insf -c disk

Re: install DVD-ROM in server
The scsi id setting is on the back(connecter) end of the drive.
The diagram doesn't fit(if this is an HP DVD-ROM) so they put it on its side. It makes setting the scsi id really confusing.
