Re: Install hpux 1st time
for HPUX 11 V2 have a look at :
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv2mcoe.html or for other versions:
http://docs.hp.com/
The installations are pretty straightforward, enter CD/DVD and answer the prompts as you go along. Most of the network config, can also be done after the initial build. Depending on whether you can afford to sit at the terminal, answering questions straight away I would estimate 1-2 days total build and patch time.

Re: Install hpux 1st time
Hi, well even thought it might look difficult or strange to install hp-ux on a machine like that, is not, very very easy, installing linux in a graphical interface is more difficult.
Basically, you go to your machine, insert your dvd, and boot from it, you might need to specify size of root, and swap and those things... this document is like 24 pages, from which you only have to read like 13 to do a very profesional install:

Regards,
Jaime.

Re: Install hpux 1st time
how about a flowchart:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-2805/ch05s02.html
In order to know what the install is doing I would advise to at least read the overview in the Installation Doucument for 11.11 :
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-2805/index.html
and the Read before Installing booklet in:
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.html#Installing%20and%20Updating
I have always done my installs on the console, so can't really help that much with laptop setup. Have you actually tried it?

Re: Install hpux 1st time
Please take the time to assign these nice people points.
They helped.
Minimal:
1)Quarterly update
2)Security patches recommened by security_patch_check
3)Patches recommened by patch assessment (itrc.hp.com)
4)Patches required by application.
To estimate how it takes to build a mission critical system, one would need to know what the mission of the system would be. Oracle server? What?
I'd allocate a couple of weeks, because you are a beginner.
