Install Patch Issue
When I install the first patch using swinstall, I get an error message:
"checkinstall[142] SW_PATCH512B: Parameter not set."
I tried doing an "export SW_PATCH512B=0", then running swinstall, but it still failed.
The second patch gave the same error (except on line#134).
I tried the command line swinstall (-x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true -s /tmp/PHCO_23684.depot), but that failed
also:(
Any suggestions???
Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Install Patch Issue
Do you have access to the Custom Patch Manager (CPM)? If so, run the motions - download the cpm_collect.sh script. Run it. FTP it to the specified hp web site. Run the analysis. Then see if your three patches are there. If so, select them, and create a bundle. Then ftp the bundle back to your machine, and try installing that. You'll see that the CPM will list quite a few other patches also, but only select the ones syou really think you need. If your patches are way out of date, you might want to load the patch bundle from Sept 2001 for 11i.

Re: Install Patch Issue
I use ftp myself, as only a few of us are allowed to ftp sites, but not through our browsers.

Re: Install Patch Issue
I used IE to download. Could that be part of the problem?
Harry,
Yes, I can get there, so I guess the cpm is an option after all as a pay per incident.

Re: Install Patch Issue
may be? When ever I download patch through IE.
1. file-save as whatever name I choose doesn't matter.
2. msdos prompt ftp to unix workstation using binary mode
3. rename that file to patch_name
4. vi patch_name and remove anything just above this lines.
#---------------------------------- cut here ----------------------------------
# This is a shell archive. Remove anything before this line,
5. sh patch_name will generate two file
patch_name.depot
patch_name.text
Try steps mention above it should work.
Harry. We have full contract with HP so I can ftp too but I don't know I uses logway.

Re: Install Patch Issue
My guess is that the patch file gets corrupted in download. are you downloading to a windows workstation and then copying over to hp box or are you downloading directly to the hp box.
you can try to download the patch to your hp box directly, using netscape/explorer if you are using browser or using ftp.
To download the patch via ftp, ftp to ftp.itrc.hp.com, use anonymous ftp.
hope this helps.
Thanks

Re: Install Patch Issue
I don't have direct access, but I downloaded
using ftp as a binary file, then transferred
to the E35 box as a binary and the sh
worked ok.
The problem is I still get the
"SW_PATCH512B: Parameter not set" message.
I did a "sum" on /usr/bin/sh to see if I
was using the wrong sh, but it came out the
same as another box (34607:848).
Harry, I can't get to the cpm_collect.sh script
without putting in a credit card, so I guess I have no other choice but to use cpm.
Thanks for the help....

Re: Install Patch Issue
Do you have any system handles for you servers?
If so, you can link your login to one or more of these system handles. Then, you will be able to access the CPM for this and any other server you may have, get the cpm_collect.sh file and perform patch analyses on your servers. Hope this helps.

Re: Install Patch Issue
One thing I would like to suggest when you
do have the patches downloaded is before
actually installing them, run through the
preview mode of 'swinstall' and view the
output. This is especially true when
attempting to load patches that are kernel
patches are ones that require a reboot. It
will save a lot of heartache if something
goes wrong and you have to recover from
your ignite tape.
# swinstall -p -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true -s
