Install tomcat in other filesystem

Hi ,

Is it possible to install tomacat v7.0 in another filesystem other than /opt ??

You can always create a symlink from /opt to /wherever.

That's assuming you're out of space or you want the bits to be exactly the same?

The intention is that if something happens to this server , it must failover to other server with services up and running .

Is this an additional requirement?  The files in /opt should be read only and don't contain any state.

Perhaps you could define what you mean "something happens to this server".

If the server crashes, Tomcat is the least of your worries.

Do you have Service Guard running on this server?

You don't need to worry so much about the executables as you do the appropriate configuration files and data.

If you employ some method to sync your Tomcat config between 2 servers then that could work.

If you have this server configured as part of a Service Guard cluster then your Tomcat configuration files and data should be stored on one of the shared logical volumes.

I don't use Tomcat so I'm not sure where the config files / data files would be.  If you have configured Tomcat and are using it I would hope you'd know where things are. :)

Tomcat, just like Apache and Java, etc should be installed and maintained on every node in the cluster. Your package design will require the active configs and logfiles to move automatically to the active node. All nodes where the package is to be run should have the same base products installed.

Of course not, that wouldn't be a SVR4 layout where /opt is read only and not modifiable.

They could be in /var/opt or /etc/,  etc.  (That's assuming tomcat is following the rules.  :-)

The default, example or skeleton files might be there.
