Re: installation problem

Hi,

Can you check the file:
/var/adm/swagent.log en the swinstall.log

In these files there will be a clue what is happening.
If you don't see it ! Post the part of the latest install run.

Re: installation problem

What are you installing !

Is in the swinstall.log any information regarding this install ?
Or is there no file installed at all ?

Did you ran an swlist to see if anything is installed at all ?

Re: installation problem

There should be some info in swagentd.log and swagent.log. Post those two here to see the problem. What were you trying to install.

Try to answer Clemens questions so that we can help you better.

Re: installation problem

We need to look at swinstall.log and swaentd.log. Post them. Without that we can not comment.

Re: installation problem

Matteo,

Please try to answer our questions !
It is difficult to tell what your problem is, if we have no information at all, except that it is not working.

So be so kind to post your swinstall en swagent log file !

Also tell us what you are trying to install !

Maybe we will be able to be of any assistance.

Kind regards,
Clemens

Re: installation problem

Matteo,

Look in your swagent.log file for this line:

01/28/04 10:24:22 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=1381)

Here you are starting to try and install what you want to install.

There you get lots of NOTE's which are explaining that lots of parts are already installed
Then you get ERROR's which explain you try to install software that can not be installed because other needed parts are not on your system.
Then again lots of NOTE's regarding patches already installed on your system.
Then again ERROR's about IGNITE software and unable to resolve dependencies.
Then you get the :
* Summary of Analysis Phase:
Here is displayed which filesets are excluded
Then it looks like the session is stopped, because of the user canceling the session.

Then we start all over again:

01/28/04 14:05:56 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=3694)

Same as above !
Then again:
01/28/04 14:25:45 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=5104)

Same result:

Then we get to this morning:

======= 01/29/04 10:16:06 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=1375)
(jobid=gehp32-0036)

* Agent session started for user "root@gehp32". (pid=1375)
ERROR: This Agent session lost the RPC connection to the Controller
or Target Agent that initiated the session. RPC runtime
detected this lost connection. The session is being shut
down. (pid=1375)

======= 01/29/04 10:16:46 MET END install AGENT SESSION (Cancelled)
(pid=1375) (jobid=gehp32-0036)

Probably you restarted the swagentd en then we start over again with the same stuff as above:
01/29/04 10:18:33 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=1397)
Same analysis eeror's as above !
But now after analysis we start with:
* Beginning the Install Execution Phase.

* Filesets: 230
* Files: 15166
* Kbytes: 839317
* Installing bundle "700QPK1020,r=ACE.199912.02" .
* Installing bundle "B5458DA,r=C.01.18.04" because it is a
"reference" bundle and one or more of its contained filesets
is being installed.
* Installing bundle "B6378DA,r=ACE.199912.01" .
* Installing bundle "J2559C,r=D.06.21" .
* Installing bundle "OS_Patch,r=04.00" .
* Installing bundle "SRA,r=C.02.02" .

The question is did you cancel it yourself or did the system stops running the installation ??????

Since after the beginning of the installation we suddenly go to the next restart !
======= 01/29/04 11:13:14 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=2798)

After the restart there is something installed:
The first patch installed is:

'PHKL_10163' from being backed off the system.
WARNING: The "preinstall" script for "PHKL_10163" had a warning (exit
code "2"). The script location was
"/var/tmp/AAAa02798/catalog/PHKL_10163/pfiles/preinstall".
* This script had warnings but the execution of this product
will still proceed. Check the above output from the script
for further details.
* Installing fileset "PHKL_10163.PHKL_10163,r=B.10.00.00.AA" (1
of 230).

======= 01/29/04 11:23:01 MET BEGIN swmodify SESSION

* Session started for user "root@gehp32".

* Source:
* Target: gehp32:/
* Software selections:
OS-Core.CORE-KRN
* File selections:
/usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a

* Beginning Selection Phase.

* Validating the selected files and control files.
* Selection Phase succeeded.

* Beginning Analysis Phase.
* Analysis Phase succeeded.

* Beginning Modification Phase.
* Modification Phase succeeded.

After this it looks like we start all over again:
======= 01/29/04 11:23:01 MET END swmodify SESSION

======= 01/29/04 11:33:13 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=4392)

********** Restarted yourself ????? ******

After this restarted analysis we see some software and patches/filesets being installed.

* Installing bundle "J2559C,r=D.06.21" etc....

Lots of filesets are being installed , and then suddenly we get this restart ????

Busy installing !!!!!!!!
* Installing fileset "PHKL_22087.PHKL_22087,r=B.10.00.00.AA" (39
of 229).

And then restart !!!!!

======= 01/29/04 12:50:21 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=7717)

The we start installing filesets again:
======= 01/29/04 13:01:19 MET BEGIN swmodify SESSION
Several other filesets from the tape are now being installed

The all over again !

01/29/04 13:09:17 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=9353)

The again it looks like being killed, and restarted again:

======= 01/29/04 13:23:19 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=10823)

And again killed ! and restarted:

======= 01/29/04 13:51:46 MET BEGIN install AGENT SESSION (pid=12450)

Then we are almost at the end of your log file where again some filesets are being installed.

This was a look through your log file !

My conclusion :

I think it takes more time than you expect to install the software from the tape.

So restart your installation session and keep a tail running on your swagent.log file
(# tail -f /var/adm/sw/swagent.log)
to see what exactly the system is doing.
So far as I can see there is no clue for a failing installaion , execpt from being restarted several time in a row.
Keep the session running without manually interupting the session.

I think the performance of the system (B180 with probably one processor and low memory) will be a bit poor. So it might look like the system is doing nothing at all.
Give it some time.

Kind regards,
Clemens
