Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Hi,
EFI Boot Manager ver 1.10
System Firmware: 1.01 [4652]
BMC Version: 5.03
MP Version: T.01.22

I created LUN's on an EVA. Im told there is no zoning on the network so I presume everything can see everything - is this correct?
Any idea why i cant see these disks?

See below: Disks: 0 ( 0.0GB)

Hi!

Can you see the connection from the server on the EVA? And have you made the disk available to the connection (also on the EVA)?

Even though I havent been working with it for quite some time, I do recall (I think ;-) that you have to have zoning on the switches when running Unix, dont think its supported otherwize.

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Are you using the latest september release of 11.31? You have to!

No zoning is a bit unlikely ...

Anyway, you need to present vdisks from EVA to the HBAs of the server - otherwise you will see nothing.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Im using the latest September release.
Im told there's no zoning........

When I created the LUNs I had to manually add the WWN's of the ports (which i got from the OA)

Is zoning really necessary in order for HP-UX to see the disks on the SAN?

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

necessary or not, it is strongly recommended, especially if you are using different OS.

You need to present each LUN you want to the host WWN from the EVA side.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

I have 2 Qlogic HBA's:

1 QLogic QMH2462 4Gb FC HBA for HP c-Class BladeSystem
1 50:01:43:80:00:81:e2:30
2 50:01:43:80:00:81:e2:32
2 QLogic QMH2462 4Gb FC HBA for HP c-Class BladeSystem
1 50:01:43:80:00:81:e1:d8
2 50:01:43:80:00:81:e1:da

I entered these WWN's in the CommandView Host Properties

FC Adapter Port WWN
5001-4380-0081-e230
5001-4380-0081-e232
5001-4380-0081-e1d8
5001-4380-0081-e1da

The disk is presented to the server also.
Can you confirm this is all correct?

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Idealy you should not enter the WWN's of the hosts itself, as they should be viewable for the Comman View, it the connection works as it should.

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Torsten's point about which 11.31 (11iv3) version is a good one. The 11iv3 "LR" bits are not "supported" on a BL860c - you need the second or subsequent 11iv3 releases to have "support."

Also, minor nit, but I think that fibre channel uses the term "fabric" rather than "network" although I could be wrong on that. Being a networking guy, it is a nit I'm more likely to pick :)

Re: Installing 11.31 on BL860c on SAN disk - cannot see disk

Once the zoning was done, I saw the disk and all went to plan.
thanks for assistance
