Installing a local printer on HP-UX 11.0

Greetings to all,

Please excuse me for this basic question, (I?ve recently been moved to a Unix environment am somewhat of a new user), due to an application requirement one of our Unix machines has been upgraded to HP-UX 11.0.

I was wondering how do I install a printer (DeskJet 1600cm) locally that is being shared from another Unix machine running HP-UX 10.20. I?ve experienced basic installations of 10.20, adding printers seemed to be straightforward in that environment.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Installing a local printer on HP-UX 11.0

Are you moving the printer to this system or do you plan on keeping it attached to the box running 10.20 and just need to print to it from the 11.0 box?

If you want to keep it where it is and print to it form the hp-ux 11 box you should add it as a remote printer. Here is a way you should be able to do this.

# sam
-> printers and plotters
-> lp spooler
-> printers and plotters
-> Actions / Add Remote Printer

Give the printer a name, enter the 10.20 system's host name and printer name.

Hope this is what you were looking for, if not let us know!

denver's method is ok, but you have to add the name and IP address in /etc/hosts, if you want to configure the remote printer.

I believe that SAM will allow you to enter an IP address in place of the host name. Useful if you don't want to add the remote host to /etc/hosts.
