Installing encryption utility gnupg vs pgp

I am looking into installing an data encryption utility on my HPUX 11.11 rp3400 server for the first time...so I am a new to the utility. I have downloaded gnupg 2.0.1 and have extracted the contents on a local file server to see what it all contains and to view the README files. It requires 5 other packages to be downloaded from the ftp gnupg.org site.
I have downloaded these packages to my file server and have extracted them as well. I am amazed at how much there is in all and that it does not come all packaged together. I am not certain as to how I should go about installing the product and was looking for some assistance. My plans are as follows:

A. directory structure that I was thinking of building for this was as follows have a gnupg directory with a subdirectory for the release 2.0.1 and then below the release directory have the gnupg components along with the subdirectories for the 5 packages mentioned above.
- gnupg
- 2.0.1
- libgpg-error
- libgcrypt
- libksba
- libassuan
- pinentry


B. Upload all components to their respective directories on the HP from the file server.

C. Follow README instructions within gnupg:
Install the 5 packages first in the order specied within the README by navigating to each of the package directories and executing the three following commands for each package.

./configure
make
make install


D. Then navigate to the gnupg 2.0.1 directory and install gnupg by running:

As with all packages, you just have to do

./configure
make
make install

Once this is complete I should have gnupg on the system and I should be ready to create keys and encrypt.

For those that have installed gnupg does my procedure appear correct? Would I be better off purchasing PGP....is it much more streamlined than this procedure?

GnuPG 1.x is still being maintained, and has
a much smaller set of prerequisites. As it
says at http://gnupg.org/ :

The current stable version is 1.4.6 .

Unless you have a particular need for some
feature exclusive to the 2.x variety, I'd
suggest sticking with 1.4.6 (and/or its
descendants, as they arise).

HP also packages a stable 1.x version as part of their "Internet Express" collection.
