Installing HP-UX 11.0 reporting -164MB short space?

On a G30 server with HP-UX 10.20 I am installing/upgrading to 11.0. It is reporting not enough disk space (-164MB). I have 1003MB on the drive. The error message indicate that the reason is because I am installing on a disk with files on it or something to that effect. I am new to HP-UX and it does not matter if I do a clean install or upgrade, but i cannot emagine that it actually takes 1GB of space to install. What am i doing wrong or how can i fix this.

Hi,

Minimum space required for 11.0 is around 1.5GB. ( system will create file systems of its own size by default). Hence you can't install 11.0 on 1GB disk.
Buy a new disk (of larger size) and install

You might want to have a read of the following document:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/5990-6721.pdf

and in there it talks about disk space etc.

I certainly would not install on anything less than a 2Gb disc

Hello Headley,

Your 1 Gb disk is very small for HP-UX 11.00, the problem is not the files in your disk because when you install (not updating) the disk is initialized.
In other way you can add more disks to your VG00 at the moment of the installation (you don't need to discard your old 1 Gb disk). There is an option for this if you use the "Advanced Installation".

Hi Headley,

U can start a fresh installation & go for advanced installation. Here u can alter default file systems sizes. You can go for installation using LVM here you will find one option make volatile directories seperate, it means all seperate Operating System file systems like /usr,/tmp,/var,/,home will be created seperately i.e. if you use whole disk approach or deselet make volatile directory option then all these file systems will be incorporated within root file system. Creating all file systems within one file system will be a good option if you are running lack of disk space.
