Installing JetDirect on HP/UX 10.20

Hello,

I have downloaded the JetDirect Printer Installer for my version of HP/UX and it has the file extension .sd. Do I need to unpack this or something to get it into a depot form and run swinstall on it.

Thanks,
Aaron

Your file is a depot. Run:
swinstall -s ./xxxxx.sd

Re: Installing JetDirect on HP/UX 10.20

When I type

#swinstall -s /tmp/hp10e134.sd

the swinstall program launches as expected. Then a message pops up saying, "There currently is no depot software on host 'att' at location '/tmp/hp10e134.sd'." I select OK and shortly after that another message pops up.

The next message reads, "The default source '/tmp/hp10e134.sd' does not exist or is not a valid source and there are no other registered depots on att. You can type in the depot path on this host or choose a different host." I select OK and am presented with the specify source dialog box.

I change the source depot type from Network Directory/CDROM to Local Directory. Then up pops "The default source '/tmp/hp10e134.sd' does not exist or is not a valid source and there are no other registered depots on att. You can type in the depot path on this host or choose a different host." I select OK and set the source depot path to /tmp/hp10e134.sd, skip the filter and select OK. Then up pops "There currently is no depot software on host 'att' at location '/tmp/hp10e134.sd'."

Any idea what I am doing wrong???

Re: Installing JetDirect on HP/UX 10.20

The .SD format is actually tar so verify that you can read the table of contents with:

tar tvf /tmp/hp10e134.sd

If this shows a complete list of files then you can use swinstall to install the files. If you get an error, then the download was corrupted. The most common problem is downloading twice...once to a PC and then PC to HP-UX. If you used ftp, ALWAYS explicitly type the command BINARY. If you don't, a series of CR characters will be scattered throughout the file, thus corrupting it.

Once the file can be read by tar, use this to install from the command line:

swinstall -s /tmp/hp10e134.sd \*

Notice the \* at the end? This is the list of products to be installed. We don't want * to be expanded by the shell, so it is escaped with \ and the * selects everything in the .SD depot.
