Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Boy do I need help....

We did a clean install of UNIX 11.0. The system is up and running, everything looks great. We created our LVM's and now we want to install MirrorDisk/UX so that we can mirror our LVM's.

When we try to install the MirrorDisk software, here is what we are doing and what is happening:

swinstall
at the prompted pop-up menu:
CD Rom
artemis1
default to mnt/cdrom (I think it did...we left it defaulted at whatever it said)

We then go to actions
Add new code
Enter in our Customer ID and code (for MirrorDisk/UX)

and then we get this error:
Could not unmount CDRom. Try to manually unmount the CDRom before proceeding.

We hit OK (the only option after this error message)...

Any idea what we are suppose to do?

TIA

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Do you actually mount the CD-ROM before starting swinstall? If not, do that then go into swinstall. In the "Source Depot Path" box put in /cdrom (or whereever you mounted the CD to) and go from there.

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Hello,

I'm not sure I understand completely your steps, but:

try this:

# mount -r /dev/dsk/c?t?d? /SD_CDROM

swinstall

choose local CD-ROM (network directory/CD-ROM if from another machine)

choose the target host and depot path and you should be fine. Also, you might want to try registering the depot:

# swreg -l depot /SD_CDROM

Hope this helps

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Hmm. Try it manually. Mount the cd to then;

swinstall -x codeword= -x customer_id= -s

After you clean installed did you load the latest patch bundle ? (QPK) Perhaps a bug with swinstall until you patch it.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Is /cdrom in your /etc/fstab if so comment out.
Also are you cd'ed to /cdrom if so cd to /
before running swinstall.

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

As mention, make sure cdrom is not in you fstab. Verify you have the correct cd in the cdrom and mount using mount /dev/dsk/c#t#d# /cdrom Be sure your present working directory is /, then use swinstall -s /cdrom. Go to actions, Add a new code as you did before.

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

Hi,

Feel like you have an entry for /cdrom in /etc/fstab.
comment that line, and mount the CD manually and then issue the swinstall
never give up

Re: Installing MirrorDisk/UX

take any cd device info out of /etc/fstab

restart the the machine.

Determine with a ll of /dev/dsk or SAM what the device name of the cd is and mount it manually as noted above.

Mirror/UX is code word authorized, and until you enter the code word, you can't even see it on the cd.

I'm sure theres a hack to get around that, but I don't think thats worth discussing. Mirror/UX is a great product and worth the money.

It sounds to me like you might have bad media.
