Hi
I'm trying to install samba to
my HP workstation with a 10.20 OS.
After downloading the binary packages of samba-2.2.5 from
www.samba.org
After gunzip,tar xvf, I want
to run the program ./configure
in the source directory; but here was the problem:
"error:summary failure.Aborting config"
please help me

Re: installing Samba

Known problem:
see http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x6af76c96588ad4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

ps. Besides the 'configure', did you read the README's and TODO's in the directories?

Re: installing Samba

The instructions CLEARLY state that this is for a 11.00 or 11i server:

Installing the depot

1. Download the depot to a HPUX 11.00 or 11.11 system to /tmp directory.
2. swinstall -s /tmp/ Samba
3. Start smbd & nmbd by /sbin/init.d/samba start.

Either UPGRADE your workstation to 11.00 or 11i, or get an earlier version.

Re: installing Samba

The solution is: Either upgrade to 11.00 or 11.11 (11i) or get an older version of samba!

Re: installing Samba

Why dont you install HP-UX11 or 11i and then install CIFS off the application CD's ( this is HP's released version of SAMBA and i have it on all my machines and have had very few problems.
it installs without an issue as long as you read the installation instruction carefully.
and you also get support at HP for this should the problems resolution elude you
