Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

I am tring to swinstall MC/SG A.11.12 on my machine and am getting some errors in the analysis phase. Can someone enlighten me? Here is an output from the swagent.log file:

I guess Im confused, shouldnt it at least give me the basic functions of SG, like cmquerycl, etc..?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Unfortunately due to a process problem, there is a product called Cluster-OM that is a requirement for SG 11.12, and SHOULD be unlocked by the Codeword, but it is not.
To fix the problem here is a procedure:

The first solution to this problem is to use the codewords now available
for the COM for CD 5 of the 11.0 December application release or CD 3 of
the 11i release:

11.0 SG CD 5011-7885 (CD 5 of 5)
Customer ID: 59AYGYYCUHGA
Codeword: TFQ6 YHZX /9F5 N36C

11i SG & SG OPS CD 5011-7862 (CD 3 of 3)
Customer ID: YD7CGYYCUU4Y
Codeword: 8MM9 32SH NJ1Q SD0P

In order to load SG for 11.0 or SG and SG OPS for 11i, simply enter the
codewords above before selecting SG or SG OPS. swinstall will then
autoselect the COM and the product will install normally.

Unfortunately, the process for loading SG OPS for 11.0 is slightly more
complex since the codeword above does not unlock the COM from the SG OPS
CD 5011-7884 which is CD 4 of 5. Manufacturing have stated that it is
not possible to generate multiple codewords for a single bundle for an
application release so it is not possible to generate a second codeword
to unlock the COM on the SG OPS CD.

The solution here is to explicitly install the COM from CD 5 prior to
attempting the SG OPS installation. A warning will still be generated by
swinstall indicating the COM cannot be selected, but since it is already
installed on the system this can be ignored and SG OPS will be installed
correctly.

A second solution to this problem is to download the COM from
software.hp.com in the high availability section and install prior to
installing SG or SG OPS. Simply follow the installation instructions
available on the website. Note that the COM can be loaded before or
after SG or SG OPS but loading the COM first simplifies the overall
process if SG or SG OPS are not already loaded.

This problem is fixed on the March Application CD's (Dart 52) where the
COM is no longer codeword protected.

For existing customers who have loaded SG or SG OPS by overriding the
dependency options and wish to load the COM for use with Continental
Clusters or ServiceGuard Manager, the COM can be installed on a running
cluster without halting cluster services or packages on any node.

We are getting this issue fixed on the next CD release.

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Hi,

Please download B8324BA HP Cluster Object Manager from http://www.software.hp.com before install SG from App CD , I sure that it will help.

enjoy any little thing in my life

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

I don't seem to be able to find the Cluster Object Manager from software.hp.com. I searched for both "Cluster Object Manager", and B8324BA. Is it OK to just install COM from disk 5, then pop in disk 4 and blow off any ERRORS or warnings relating to files not found?

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Im not sure what APP CD part number are you using? Please include the month and year. I actually have the COM in a depot format if you have an ftp site I can put it on?

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

That would be fantastic Todd. The ftp://ftp.compgen.com/incomming would be wonderful. Thanks,

By the way its the MAR2000 release S800 fo the HP-UX Applic CDs. Disc part number is B3782-10463. I had put all this earlier, but my quest has left it's mark on a number of threads.

Thanks again

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Everett,

I might have been a little hasty with saying I had the COM. I believe I had the DEC2000 CD and in this thread there is a Customer Identifier and codeword that unlocks the COM. So I did not get it from the website. Do you have the DEC2000 APP CD's?

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Yes Todd,
I have them, those are the ones that have two Service Guard packages on them. It's odd, but if you do an swinstall it gives you to choices. The codeword sheet gives two "Updated Product Numbers" as well, one is B3935BA, the other is B3935DA ABA. Can you explain the difference? We figured the ABA was the swedish version ;)

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

For some reason HP decided they needed to change the number for Service Guard to B3935DA. Im not sure about the ABA part of your response. If you do have your DEC2000 CD's just take the Customer Identifier and Codeword and this will unlock the dependency for Service Guard.

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

The DEC CD fails to install as well. Rather than troublshoot that now, I would like to try and get the March CD to work. I followed the advice of the article that directed the install of the COM package directly, then set the options on swinstall to not "Enforce dependency analysis errors", to "Reinstall files even if same one already there", and to "Reinstall filesets even if same revision exists"

But I still get the attached swagent output. Seems like even if I had the guts to go ahead, 1/2 of the packages will not be installed.

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

I had mentioned that I was of the impression after reading the first message in this thread that I should take the provided codeword and Customer ID and load them on the system, THEN try to load MCSG. Well, after our conversation I used swremove and removed the COM package from node #1, then put the cd in the other machine, just in case there were traces of the other swinstall lingering. I tried the install again, and got the same errors. I attached the log. It seems like I am missing the file "/var/tmp/BAAa01860/catalog/ServiceGuard/pfiles/checkremove" and this is at least the start of my problem. Ether way I have included the excerpt from the agent log if you are feeling froggy, otherwise thanks for your interest.

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

How are you mounting the CD?

should be the following

mount /dev/dsk/c?t?d? /cdrom

dont use -F cdfs

Todd

Re: Installing Service Guard A11.12 from App CD problems.

Your kidding. I bet that might have been it. To late to try now as HP sent me a tarball. Someone mentioned that early on, but I didn't think it could be a factor as I could ls and do finds on all the files. Also, I installed the 16user license mounted as cdfs. So what's the deal with mounting cdfs?
