Installing TSM in HP-UX

Hi Guys,

I installed an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client in an HP rp4440 running HP-UX 11i v1. When I run swlist, I can see that the client is installed. According to the installation instruction, the dsm.sys.smp will be created upon installation. But I cannot find any dsm.sys on my system. Any ideas on how to make this work? Anybody who has tried to install TSM client?

Hi,

There should be a dsm.sys.smp file on the system, it is a sample file, which can be used as a template for the dsm.sys file.

here is an example from a dsm.sys file, you can create the file manually - mine is located under /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin :

Thanks to your replies guys. Unfortunately I cant really find any dsm files on my server. Another question, are the installation files automatically created on /opt/tivoli/tsm....? I downloaded my tsm client installer from IBM website. Placed it on a depot on my local directory then installed it using swinstall. After installation, I can see that a folder TIVsm was created on my depot directory. Any suggestions on how you installed tsm client on your servers?

Hi Jef,

Could you try the following:

ls -l /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin
swlist -l fileset|grep -i tivsm

and post the output ?

The files should be created during installation, except for dsm.sys and dsm.opt which you should create yourself.

The output seems fine, and I don't know where to go from here.

But you should be able to see where the software is installed using this command:

swlist -v TIVsm64.CLIENT|grep client

Hi Jef,
Start by deinstalling whatever you had previously:
/usr/sbin/swremove -x mount_all_filesystems=false -v TIVsm.CLIENT

Then start all again following what I did:
1) get that version I got from IBM (just use the link...)

etc...

What version of TSM server are you using?
