Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
I have an a500 server running hpux 11.11 We have just installed a new sure store 5300 tape array with dds4 drives inside the array. I also installed a PCI SCSI Ultra 160 (A6829A) hba in the a500 for connectivity to one of the dds drives (scsi addr 1) in the array. I am unable to see the tape device connected to this card, however I can still see the card.
Below is the output from an ioscan...
ext_bus 3 0/0/2/1 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C87x Ultra Wide Single-Ended
target 4 0/0/2/1.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
ctl 3 0/0/2/1.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
/dev/rscsi/c3t7d0
I have rebooted the server, installed kernel patch PHKL_29685 for support for this adapter...
Any help in getting this tape drive working would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers :)
Andrew

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
probably you have not included the driver for the tape drive in the kernel. stape is the driver. go to sam and check the status of the stape. if its not included rebuild the kernel to include the driver.
then do an ioscan -fnC tape
insf -e will install the device files for the tape drives.
with best wishes

I just double checked that the driver was loaded in the kernel, and the status said it was loaded /(in)...

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
Actually i have not been following a guide as we purchased this through a vendor, and they installed the drive, booted up the server and said "to bad, so sad... It doesnt work, your problem now..."
I will look for one of these documents...
Thanks again.

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
We have connected a scsi terminator, and the tape device is set to scsi address 1 in the array. I am not sure how to diagnose conflicting scsi addresses though... It had crossed my mind, but didnt know where to start...

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
how many drives are there in the library?
hope there is only one.
there is switch behind to select the scsi id..select it to any other than 7 which is assigned to the adaptor itself. you should make sure that you are not connecting any devices on the same bus with the same scsi id.

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
The problem was a faulty scsi adapter, I had HP replace it, and everything was ok.
Thanks everyone for you help.

Re: Installng a new sure store 5300 tape array
I added a SCSI adapter "SCSI C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD A6828-60101" into a rp2470 with HP-UX 11.00.
Then I connected the card with a TA5300,with 3 devices in it, 1 Ultrium230 drive, 1 DVD-rom, 1 DDS4 tapedrive,while the Ultrium230 and the DVD-rom works well, but the DDS4 can't be found through ioscan -fn command.
I connected them as following: SCSI card -> Ultrium230 -> DDS4 -> DVD-rom.
I've changed the slots, and changed the connection such as DDS4 only; DDS4+DVD; DDS4+Ultrium; DVD+Ultrium... but all of them has the same result.
Even HP changed a DDS4 drive for me, but nothing changed.
here is the ioscan output of this bus:
ext_bus 4 0/4/0/0 c8xx CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD A6828-60101
