Integrity Virtual Machines

Anybody out there using VM's for production purposes. I am not talking about vPars, but instead I am asking about the new, more granular Integrity VM stuff.

If you are using, what services are you supporting with VM's?

What do you feel the processor overhead is (10%, 20%, ...?)

How is the management (as simple as HP says or painful)?

What is/are the big drawback(s) that you discovered after implementation?

If you could do it all over, would you have used vPars instead or in addition? Thanks for any commments.

Re: Integrity Virtual Machines

We are using Integrity VM for our dev/test environments.

I can't comment on CPU overhead (yet), but out bigger concern is memory. Unlike VMWare (intel based VM solution), IVM does not allow memory "sharing". You can't start an IVM if there is not enough available memory.

We like the fact that we can isolate our dev/test/cm environments, and not have to have a separate box for each...

Re: Integrity Virtual Machines

Oh, and the interface is OK. I am using the CLI. There is a (new) gui for managing VM's, but I'm prefer CLI.

I'll try the GUI when I get a spare moment.

We are very interested in IVM support for MC/ServiceGuard, supposedly coming this summer. It'll be nice to test clustered software, without needing to maintain several in-house clusters.
