Invalid Array ID

HP Server rp7410
HP Tape Array 5300 VA7110

Using the SAM utility, when going into File Systems,Volume Groups, Backups and Recovery....I get the following message.

The command used to retrieve information about HP SureStore VirtualArray has failed. The stderr is shown below.

INVALID ARRAY ID

armdsp{..............alot of stuff} like from MAN

/opt/sanmgr/commandview/client/sbin/armdsp, did not provide a Serial Number for device file /dev/dsk/c4t0d0.

Then I get the same message again except for device /dev/dsk/c6t0d0.

The only guess I have is that it has something to do with a drive I had to replace awhile back, but I thought the VA7110 controller would take care of everything...was there something else I was supposed to do?..or am I way off?

I have attached the complete message..WORD doc.

Re: Invalid Array ID

Hi,

This is a normal error when you configure it through SAM.

It is better to use the command line to create the LV and VG

Re: Invalid Array ID

But the odd thing this never happened when I first set the server up (over a year ago).

It just started recently...and the only thing recent I have done is swap out a hard drive. May have nothing to do with the drive...I don't know what to look at.

Re: Invalid Array ID

I re-read your text but I still haven't understood what you are trying to do.

Re: Invalid Array ID

Just trying to find out why I'm getting the error message. Not really doing anything but opening up and looking in sections in the SAM utility.

Re: Invalid Array ID

After reviewing some other postings...it may have something to do with the Hard Drive I replace awhile back.

HP support at the time said to just replace the drive and that's all.

Where they some commands I should have ran after removing the bad drive and installing the new? I ran no commands afterwards what so ever....just replaced the drive.

Re: Invalid Array ID

Does armdsp -i work?

I've had problems before where I've had to armdiscover the array even though it has all been working fine.

I get this....

# armdsp -i

No devices found.

Re: Invalid Array ID

Thanks, that fixed my problem. I will know to run armdiscover the next time I have to swap drives.

Re: Invalid Array ID

You probably won't need to run it again for a while. I don't understand why it doesn't keep connected to the array. I just know that I've been able to armdiscover our array (we used to have a VA7400) whenever armdsp hasn't wanted to play.

Re: Invalid Array ID

I don't think it has anything to do with swapping the drives. I think the two are unrelated, although I could be wrong.
