Inventory of serialnumber of printers in hp ux 11

How can I view / collect the serial number of printers that are in on my HPUX server ?
. Is there a command in SAM ? (HPUX v11.11 9000/800)

HP-UX does not collect this information as far as I know. Getting the serial number is an operation for people with eyeballs and pens with paper.

Think about it. Did you have to put in the serial number to set it up?

Yes, but there is a serial number in the printer. And then there could be a way through snmp to retreive it to HP-UX ?
Is there a HP-UX product which can do this?
I understand it is not standard in HP-UX, but is there a way to configure this ?

It may be simpler to first install some graphical snmpwalker on a Windoze box. Make sure you can get a the info you need then go find a similar software for HPUX.

net-snmp has such a snmp walker for HPUX.

The reason for a Windoze tool to assist is that a graphical tool with search capabilities may make things easier. Once you ID the OID you are 3/4 the way there.

Otherwise you can use net-snmp. I would assume the OIDs for a printer are fairly limited and you just may be able to figure it out relatively quickly.

I believe net-snmp is included with Internet Express found at software.hp.com

if you keep press enter and check if you see serial number. try with a printer which is near and u can physically verify too

The OID for the HP LJ4020 printers I have here is.

Could not tell you if it is the same for the whole world.

if it is a network printer dont you use webjetadmin for management of printers and alarms. That product should be able to provide that in a report.

All newer HP printers have a web service you can hit in any browser just browse to the ip address of the printer. I got this info from my browser on one of my printers:

You must have only new printers. There are hundreds of HP printers that never had a readable serial number. You won't be able to collect serial numbers from printers connected with a parallel or serial cable, or any printers that are being shared to your HP-UX system from some other computer. Serial numbers (and other detailed internal information) is not standardized, even with HP printers.
