ioinit -c command

ioinit -c command

We have an issue that a system was not rebooted for a while, then a port on the SAN was moved for a particular tape drive. Now ioscan shows NO_HDW for this tape drive. On the SAN end, the tape drive is still zoned to the host. We tried ioscan -f and insf -e and ioscan still shows NO_HDW. Without re-booting the system, can we do an ioinit -c to create a new /etc/ioconfig file, so we can possibly recognize the tape drive again? Would this be safe to do?

Re: ioinit -c command

Ed,

I don't think you can perform this without a reboot.
Also keep in mind it can re-number your instance numbers.

Instance number already exists for a given class. Use rmsf to
remove the existing instance number, then retry.

Re: ioinit -c command

Hi,

Normally when you disconnect and connect the device back it should get CLAIMED in ioscan automatically.

Please check the ZONE config in SAN, is it a HARD ZONE / SOFT ZONE ?

Check in terms of any changes WWN ( of port) or PID&DIDs.

Siva.

Re: ioinit -c command

Hi Ed,

If you moved the tape drive to an other port and your zoning is OK, the tape drive should appear with another device file

Try this
ioscan -fnC tape
insf -e
ioscan -funC tape

If you can see the tape then the zoning is OK. Afterwards you can modify the device files if you would like
