ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

I've got a new rp3440 which has two PCI Dual Channel Ultra160 SCSI Adapters. I've hooked them up to two Storageworks 2100 disk enclosures. I've got one connection from each adapter going to each disk enclosure. So each adapter is hooked up to each enclosure. However when I ioscan the disks, one of the disks shows as unclaimed. In fact it's the same disk on both enclosures and both paths. Any ideas on this? Have I cabled this incorrectly? I've attached the ioscan output

I don't see anything appearing as unclaimed on the ioscan. Is part of the file missing maybe?

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

Instead of doing an ioscan for just the disks, attach an ioscan -f so the disks and adapters appear.

Sorry,

I've attached the correct ioscan.

Is it one enclosure with 4 drives? I see 4 devices as NO_HW. What hardware addresses do the adapters use?

Ooops, I see that they are dual connected to both arrays. Are all 4 connections showing up as NO_HW?

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

Have you created the device files using insf or mksf? Also, SAM should be able to 'see' the devices and add the appropriate files needed to use them. I would suggest insf, if that doesn't work, try SAM.

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

The 2100 holds 4 disks. I have 2 2100's so with dual pathing I have 2 paths to each disk. In my case it looks like one disk on each 2100 is unclaimed. Hence 4 paths total for the 2 disks

Neither sam nor insf has any effect.

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

Does the ioscan show both adapters? Maybe there is a problem with one of the cards?

Both adapters are claimed and look ok.

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

Hi! Terrence,

Can you make sure that all the pins in the cable are ok and that the cables are seated properly?

From your ioscan I see that 0/4/1/1.14.0 path is showing claimed.

Can you attach ioscan -fn output?

Can you post output of "ioscan -fnk" ?

Re: ioscan and dual path disk enclosures

Hi! Terrece,

It seems like cable issue to me.

Did you check to see if all the pins in the cables on the both ends are fine?

Can you swap the cable that is connected on 0/4/1/1 hardware address with the cable that is connected on 0/4/1/0 hardware address and then run an ioscan -fn and compare with the original ioscan output?

If you see that 0/4/1/1.8.0 hardware address shows as NO_HW then the probem is most likely with the cable. It could also be with the controller card.
