ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card

I got involved in hosts that have been previously managed. I did an "ioscan -funC fc" and it did not return anything. The host is an rp3440. Is there a fiber card that is not of type fc?

Hi!!

# ioscan -funC fc

should give you an output something like this:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
===================================================================
fc 0 0/0/10/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td0
fc 1 1/0/8/1/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Chan
nel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td1

If not, then you do not have a fiber card installed.

The way I see it anyway...

Oh...I read it again. How do you 'see' the fc card? If you can physically eyeball it, it should have a part # stamped on it. Could you please post that?

And, can you post the output of # ioscan -fn

That gives everything but the kitchen sink.

Hi,

>>>Is there a fiber card that is not of type fc? <<<

I don't think so.

If you have doubt still, check everything with

#ioscan -fn |more
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Hi again,

forgot to add...

>>>ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card <<<<

The card which you seen, is it working? It might not have been installed(driver may not be installed) or failed one.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card

on the physical card i see "PCI-X Single Port 1000 Base-SX Adapter. That's the one with the FC cable on it.

the ioscan -fnk shows:

lan 2 0/3/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AD332-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-SX Adapter

lan 1 0/4/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AD332-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-SX Adapter

thanks,

That's Gigabit network card.

>>That's the one with the FC cable on it.

I seriously doubt that. There should be nothing more than a Cat-5e or Cat-6 network cable plugged in.

Re: ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card

that's what what on the machine now. it has the orange fc cable on it and the port thtat it has is an FC port. The the description I wrote earlier, is stamped on the metal piece of the card.

Re: ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card

Here's the full ioscan -fnk. Let me know if something stands out as a device that would be used as an FC card. Thanks.

Re: ioscan -funC fc shows nothing, but i see the fc card

The AD332 is a Gigabit NETWORK card that uses a FIBRE cable to attach to the switch.

This is **NOT** a Fibre Channel card that you would use to access a SAN.
