Re: ip address already in use

There is machine out there on your network which is susing the same ip adress that you are trying to give to a NIC card, unless you assign new adress, change ip adress already in use, you can not proceed further.

Re: ip address already in use

That ip address is being used by another system. You have to put a different ip in your server. If that ip address was "legally" assigned to you (assumming by network admin), ask the network admin for help.

Re: ip address already in use

Hi,

can u post your /etc/rc.config.d/netconf

I don't think the problem has something to do with
another machine on the net.

It's somewhere in the server itself.

Re: ip address already in use

Hi,

maybe you can pull out the network cable from the server and ping the ip address from any machine. If the ping reply it does mean that other machine have used the ip(you can use any network scanning tool or lookup command to find the machine). If it does not means that u have already assign the ip maybe to another card in the same machine

Thanks & Regards

Re: ip address already in use

If you disconnect the 5470 from the network and walk to a windows workstation:

Ping the ip address you are trying to configure. If you see it answer, another card outside your system has that ip address reserved.

You will need to deal with network administration to straighten that out.

If however the suspect ip address is not activated on your network outside the rp5470 machine the problem is with the rp5470 machine in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf

Few things to remember:

1) You can't have two ip addresses on the same network on two different hp-9000 nic cards. The OS won't do it.

2) You can't keep backup copies of netconf in /etc/rc.config.d/ They will get processed and the results can be spectacularly bad.

Re: ip address already in use

The ip address is used on some other card on the same server.

Re: ip address already in use

Strictly speaking, one can assign distinct IP addresses from the same subnet to multiple interfaces on an HP-UX system. It may not however behave as one might want. Indeed though one cannot assign the same IP address to mulitple physical (from the point of view of the transport) NICs.
