IP addresses in a HP-UX 11 platform

Hello colleagues,
I knew from a long time that it's forbidden to configure two IP addresses (on two network interfaces) on the same platform belonging to the same IP network.
Can you help me in finding the HP document where this rule is provided?

Thanks a lot
Enrico

The document isn't the right one.
I want to configure LAN0 and LAN1; I knew that
IP0 and IP1 must be in different network domains.
Where this rule is given?

Hi Enrico,

From a networking viewpoint it is supported to have the same subnet configured on multiple lan interfaces for connectivity, however, for ServiceGuard this is not allowed.

HTH,
I work for HP

Maybe I wasn't clear enough :-)

I knew that it's forbidden to configure two IP addresses belonging to different IP networks on the same platform.
I want to give an evidence of this to a my colleague, therefore I need a HP document where this fact (this rule, this restriction) is described.

Re: IP addresses in a HP-UX 11 platform

Then the following doc should help you:

UTRANKBRC00011759 - Does HP-UX 11.X support multiple LAN on the same IP subnet?

I am going to past just the most interesting thing of that doc:

.................
The official HP policy has been, that although the functionality may
work, that it is not supported. However, due to customer request, we now
provide this document. It describes the limited support and behavior
of multiple network interfaces that are configured into the same IP subnet via
the ifconfig command on HP-UX 11.X.

To summarize, this configuration is only supported for connectivity.

It is not intended for performance improvement or load balancing over multiple
interfaces; in that case the recommendation is to use Auto Port Aggregation
("APA") product.
.................

I hope this satisfies your needs.

Best regards,
Ettore
