IPL unreachable

IPL unreachable

My IPL settings are messed up.
I can't boot from DAT tape, since there's no way to go to IPL.
Looks like the Secure flag (ON) won't let me get into IPL. How do I set this flag back to OFF?

This is a B180L running HPUX10.20 (did I just say running???)

Re: IPL unreachable

hi .

there is a way. You have to disconnect the bootable device.

As it is a B180 L machine i think the bootable disk is inside. So you may need to open the machine and disconnect the bootable disk.

Hey !!!! I think B180 L has a coupling cable which connects the controller to Hard disk . It is in the back side of your workstation just disconect it and power on your workstation the system will not find a bootable and it has nothing else to do but to come to the IPL Screes. then first set secure bit off.

best of luck

Re: IPL unreachable

hi ,

One more easy solution , Mr.Raj posted a same quiery abt secure mode.

Boot the workstation --->ioscan -fn ----> find out the Hardware path for CD Drive or DAT Drive. let's take it is 8/16/5.0, then--------> setboot -p 8/16/5.0 -b on ---->reboot -r

The above mentioned procedure will change the Primary boot path to CD Drive or DAT Drive. do not put any catridge in the drive. The system will not find any bootable location and will just stop booting. it will leave you at IPL.

Try that i hv never tried it , but not harm full.
