Re: Is CIFS limited for Sharing ?

Hi,

i do have far longer filenames here. So this is no general problem of samba/CIFS. Itmust be something in your specific configuration.

Tell us more about:

clients
CIFS Version
Server OS
smb.conf

Re: Is CIFS limited for Sharing ?

Maybe you are using Win 95 clients.

I see very long file names with Win 98 and above.

Re: Is CIFS limited for Sharing ?

Clarification for Shares:

I have Window2K Server Running in the Network which is a master browser server and Win2k is using CIFS implementation offcourse....while browsing throgh samba client from any Linux machine (e.g konqurer browser) it doesn't give me the longer Share name greater then 12 character......(of win2k machine)......
similar kinda problem has been monitored while accessing one Linux shares to another Linux machine...... i probably think that it is some Protocol level thing which is not being implemented yet.....or what......i need to figure out this.....???

Re: Is CIFS limited for Sharing ?

Hi,

If you got to the swat screen , you will find an option in " GLOBAL variables " under " Filename Handling "...the option is " short preserve case "
you have to set this option to " yes "

" short preserve case = yes "

You can go to swat screen by

Thanks
