Is it possible to initialize a tape for DLT8000 with HP-UX?
Hello All;
I had used the command which is "mediainit" for initializeing a tape of DLT8000.
But it was failed, and shown the error message below.
"error in ioctl SET CMD MODE: mode select: I/O error"
What should I do?
We don't use the omniback or anyother application for backup.
The reson why I'd like to initialize a tape is just eraseing a data from the tape.
Regards;
Katsu

Re: Is it possible to initialize a tape for DLT8000 with HP-UX?
DLT media requires no initialization. Just insert the medium and tar, cpio, dd, or fbackup to it using /dev/rmt/Xm.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Is it possible to initialize a tape for DLT8000 with HP-UX?
Hi Guys;
Thank you for your quick replying.
Which mean, "mediainit " doesn't support for formatting a DLT tape,does it?
So, "dd" is best way to erase the data on the tape. otherwise destroy the tape themselvs, doesn't it?
