Is this a hardware or a software compatibility issue?

Is this a hardware or a software compatibility issue?

Hi all,

Here is the scenario: one HP 9000 R class server, trying to install a few backup softwares on it. For the sake of simplicity, let's say IBM's TSM and HP's DataProtector. Now, both require an OS of at least 11i, which the server is running. As for the hardware part, both require HP 9000 series machines, either 700 or 800. I believe the R class falls under the 800 category. Assuming all prerequisites are met, the installaions of both backup softwares should be flawless. However, I've been receiving an error that's along the following:
Unable to access remote file "the file's name" in "the name of the installation file". Installation suspended due to internal system error.

I've checked both installation files when the errors come up, and the inaccessible files are there, and I've following all the steps mentioned in the backup software's readme file. My question is, am I simply using the wrong machine, or am I missing a few patches?

Thank you in advance.

Check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log to confirm, or run cstm/xstm for more direct interaction with the hardware. But this doesn't sound like a hardware problem at all. I'd first look into networking issues. A lot of the backup software uses a dedicated port that may be blocked by your firewall. Other utilities, such as ssh, sendmail or telnet can get through because these are unblocked. The error you mention is fairly typical of blocked TCP/IP ports.

Were I you, I'd first look at the configuration files for the backup software. If these look good, I would then spend the rest of my time looking at networking issues.

Re: Is this a hardware or a software compatibility issue?

let's assume the R-classs and DataProtector are compatible, there should be a log file ?

Is there an issue w/ DataProtector and it's configuration supporting the R-class 800 server ?

Re: Is this a hardware or a software compatibility issue?

What are the installation file names?
What is the syntax of the command you used to install them?
What is the version of the software?
What model Rclass?

Re: Is this a hardware or a software compatibility issue?

Thank you all for the replies.

I know it's not a port problem, because the default port 5555 is not used by anything at the moment.
-------------------------------------------------
Version of the software is 5.1
Machine model is R380 (11.11, 9000/800)
Files tried to run/install were DP_A0510_UX11x.sd_depot (server)
&
omnisetup.sh (client)
-------------------------------------------------
The following command was used to run DP_A0510_UX11x.sd_depot (straight from the installation.pdf file)
1.At the command line, type /usr/sbin/swinstall to run the
installation program.
2. In the Specify Source window, select NetworkPath/CDROM, and then in the Source Depot Path text box, enter /DP-DEPOT/DP_A0510_UX11x.sd_depot. Then open the SD Install - Software selection window.
3. In the SD Install - Software Selection window, double-click DATA-PROTECTOR to list the software for the installation. Right-click OB2-IS, and then click Mark for Install. (*A prompt comes up stating due to dependency, other files are marked as well.)
4. From the Actions menu, click Install (analysis). Click OK to proceed.

Now, here is the log file with the error messages:

And here is the result from running the client installation script:

# omnisetup.sh
sh: omnisetup.sh: not found.
# sh omnisetup.sh
No Data Protector/OmniBack software detected.
Will perform clean installation

Using /var/tmp/Gene/DP_DEPOT/DP_A0510_UX11x.sd_depot
