ISL

While setting up 11.0 I didn't specify a password so i figured there would be no password. Once the system came backup I typed root at "login:" and it responded back with incorrect login w/o even asking for a password.

Well I guess not I need to boot into single user mode. Question: How do I interact with ISL series 700?

After I arrive in single user mode then passwd root and thats it right?

Regards

Re: ISL

When the system is booting, press any key when prompted b/4 it continues booting after 10sec.Type "bo pri" and y for yes to interact with ISL. At ISL prompt, type 2hpux -is" to take you into single user mode, you can then change the passwd at the [] prompt.

Re: ISL

That doesn't work on a series 700.

Re: ISL

Sorry about the mix-up, my link was erratic at the time, I missed out the bit of series 700.

Re: ISL

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo pri
Interact with ISL (Y or N) ?> Y

ISL> hpux -is

#cp -p /etc/passwd /etc/passwd.bad
#vi /etc/passwd

Then delete the passwd field for root.

#passwd root

Change the passwd from " "

#shutdown -ry 0

Good Luck!

Re: ISL

When slecting the boot device to boot from ie. P0, P1 etc.add the keyword "ipl" right after it as follows: P0 ipl
This will get you to the ISL prompt and from there you boot to single user mode with hpux -is.

Re: ISL

I think the problem was that HPUX accepts no root password, but not CDE, so login via CDE is not possible without a password ...
