Virtual Memory

I have a few older HP series735 workstations running hp-ux 10.20
These workstations are running legacy Unigraphics 9.2 When working with a few models they get an error message saying they are out of virtual memory.
There is 128 MB of memory and 128 MB lvol2
There is no available space to add another LV so I added another 128 MB of file swap.
The paging directory gets created. When I reboot the system it will come up normal but then go crazy (i.e. doesn't recognize that I am logged in as root, won't allow any network connections, or won't allow a user to log in to CDE) As soon as I remove the file swap all starts working fine again.

What do I need to do to get file swap to work?

Re: Virtual Memory

try increasing maxdsiz : also I've seen old reports suggesting unigraphics also advised increasing maxvirtualarea to resolve virtual memory problems

Re: Virtual Memory

the implication being that there may be no need to increase swap I guess ?

Re: Virtual Memory

Set this kernel parameters to:

allocate_fs_swapmap=0
swapmem_on=1

Cheers!
