Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi,

Hoping someone can shed some light into an issue i've encountered while attempting to get ssh running on a D-class running HP-UX 10.20.

Depot Installation was successful however when i try to start the sshd daemon i get the following error:

root@earth:/usr/local/sbin>./sshd
/etc/ssh2/license_ssh2.dat: File not found.
License doesn't exist or is not valid.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome...

Nick

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi Nick,

Which version of SSH you are using ? Is it from a third party vendor or HP's Secure shell ?

You can use Procura's 10.20 build http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/openssh-4.0p1-10.20.sd.bz

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi Arun,

I got it from here:
http://ftp.ssh.com/priv/secureshell/updates-packages/4.0.7.1-unixbin-TsGGL/hp-ux/ssh2-4.0.7.1-sd-10.20.depot.gz

The one you have suggested requires bzip to be installed - where can i get taht for 10.20?

Thanks.

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi Nick,

I think, it is possible to install with "swinstall"

# swinstall -s /bzip2-1.0.2-pa1.1 bzip2

I though it needs to be a depot inorder for swinstall to install?

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Shalom Nick,

Perhaps unzip the file yourself prior to install.

Thoush ssh for 10.20 was long ago pulled from http://software.hp.com It is possibly on the last set of Application CD's.

You can also open a response center call and ask HP to provide you temporary access to the magic ftp server that contains old releases.

openssh.org has a version for HP-UX that you can compile.

Most D Class machines can run HP-UX 11i v1, which is still supported and can use software from http://software.hp.com

Good luck,

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Steve you guru you...

Yeah i know this box is a dinasour and so is the OS etc etc :)

I have to get it going on 10.20 in readiness for an running on a production environment which can't be ported (so the applications support team tells me) to 11.+

Anyways, i have made progress, i extracted the bzipped openssh depot locally on my laptop and loaded onto the unix server, i am now downloading openssl (as the installation failed indicating this was a pre-requisite for installation (what a head ache)

I'm almost there!

Ggggggggrrrrrrr...

Okay installed Openssh successfully (no errors and warnings) version openssh-4.0 for 10.20 (as per this thread).

sshd daemon doesn't seem to want to start:

root@earth:/opt/ssh>/usr/local/sbin/sshd start
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library: /pro/local/lib/libz.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory

Hi Nick,

Oops, sshd daemon doesn't seem to want to start:

root@earth:/opt/ssh>/usr/local/sbin/sshd start
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library: /pro/local/lib/libz.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory
Abort(coredump)

You need to have Zlib installed on your 10.20. Try downloading from http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/libz-1.1.4-pa1.1.tgz
or http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/libz-1.2.1-pa1.1.tgz

After installing this, try to link to /usr/lib

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi Arun,

Both the links supplied for zlib contain empty tar files. I extract them locally and nothing is in them, i also loaded onto the server and when i attempt to untar them i get a checksum error.

Do you have another source to get zlib?

thanks.

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

I have downloaded the source code for zlib (10.20) however it seems it requires gcc. Talk about opening a can of worms!

I have found gcc however it is saved as a .tbz, now if you all re-call from the beginning of this thread, i couldn't work out how bzip2-1.0.2-pa1.1 is to be installed - swinstall didn't like this file (see above)

IF anyone can shed light on all this for me i would really appreciate it.

BTW: (All this is to get ssh up and running on a 10.20 environment, and unfortunately at this stage upgrading to 11.+ is not an option.)

I am not sure why this is an empty depot. If you have any linux machines, download gcc there and bunzip in linux. It is easier, later you can transfer tar file to HP-UX.

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

If I recall correctly the bzip file you downloaded is a plain executable file.

You should not really have to install it. You should be able to just copy it to /usr/local/bin, or whatever directory you want, rename it to bzip2 (if you want) and execute it.

# cd
# mv bzip2-1.0.2-pa1.1 /usr/local/bin/bzip2
# /usr/local/bin/bzip2

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Okay, bzip2 is working, now attempting to install the source code for gcc - i have extracted the tar file and it has created the following directory:

pa11_32

Within that directory there is a bin and lib directory:

Any ideas what i need to do to get gcc installed?

I think, this is enough for GCC. You can go ahead and try compiling a sample program..

Re: Issues with SSH2 version ssh2-4.0.7.1 for HP-UX 10.20

Hi Arun,

If you re-call i needed to get gcc working inorder for zlib to be installed so that i can get ssh installed.

I have taken your advise and tried installing zlib again - see errors below:

root@earth:/opt/zlib/libpng-1.2.10>make install
if /bin/sh ./libtool --tag=CC --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -DPNG_CONFIGURE_LIBPNG -O -O -MT libpng12_la-png.lo -MD -MP -MF ".deps/libpng12_la-png.Tpo" -c -o libpng12_la-png.lo `test -f 'png.c' || echo './'`png.c; \
then mv -f ".deps/libpng12_la-png.Tpo" ".deps/libpng12_la-png.Plo"; else rm -f ".deps/libpng12_la-png.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -DPNG_CONFIGURE_LIBPNG -O -O -MT libpng12_la-png.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/libpng12_la-png.Tpo -c png.c -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/libpng12_la-png.o
./libtool[1326]: gcc: not found.
*** Error exit code 1

I believe more needs to be done with the gcc than simply extracting the tar file.
