2 node HPia64 11.31
I am trying to create a Cluster Volume Group using Symmetrix disks. When I try to do this through Serviceguard Manager I cannot find any common disks because the WWID's do not match up. More specifically node1 shows the correct WWID, but node2 shows no WWID. This is our first setup of Serviceguard on version 3.
Does anyone know of any requirements for Symmetrix and Serviceguard, especially Serviceguard 11.18 on 11.31. I have looked through EMC's connectivity guide and cannot find any musts with the exception of Symmetrix director bit settings.
Thanks
James

Re: Issues with WWID on Symm DMX 3
The LUNS need to have WWID's for both systems programmed in.
Beyond that there are no special requirements.

Re: Issues with WWID on Symm DMX 3
Is there a way to assign it through HP? I have tried to use scsimgr set_attr -H "hardware path" -a wwid=0x"same number on node 1"
And was given an error that wwid is not settable. Since I am not allowed to set it, I figured that this attribute would be detected by HP automatically like it was on node1 because I did not set it there. ioscans will not detect the wwid put out by the Symmetrix on the 2nd node.
Thanks,
James

SolutionA few points on HPUX 11.31 :
LVM2 volume groups are not supported for cluster lock disks.
If you are using LVM V2 volume groups in ServiceGuard you require a patch :
â ¢ PHSS_37602
With the DMX you will find more information on EMCs powerlink : review the EMC Host Connectivity Guide for HP-UX. This states -
Symmetrix DMX minimum microcode requirements for HP-UX 11iv3 (11.31)
The minimum microcode requirements are:
â 5773.79.58 (GA release)
â 5772.55.51 (GA release)
â 5771.87.95
â 5671.58.64
SPC-2 must be enabled on the SYMM and the DMX os07 director flag to fully support 11.31 features.
Good luck.
Damian.

Re: Issues with WWID on Symm DMX 3
Thanks for your comments.
The lvm/lvm2 is not the issue. I used lvm for the lock disk which shows the same problem.
I had a talk with our Symmetrix Engineer. It turns out that the director bits of the Symmetrix itself were not flipped but some command line options were done to mask the disks that were assigned to our system to make it appear that it was done. This did not work so he gave me disks off of a different Symmetrix that had the correct director bit settings for 11.31. I can now see the WWID on both nodes.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Issues with WWID on Symm DMX 3
Symmetrix disk masking is not enough.
