Istall of HP-UX on a d320

We have purchased an old d320 for learning purposes but when we install HP-UX 11, the below happens

It lets you get to a # prompt in the command console but has the following problem on boot

-=-=-
INIT: Command is respawning too rapidly

Will try again in 5 mins

Check for possible errors

Id:samd “/usr/sam/lbin/samd # system mgmt daemon”

Oct 28 10:53:51 cimserverd[161]: cimserver[5015] not running, attempting restart.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi, have you checked if it is possible to install HP-UX 11 on that d class,i guess yes but you may need the latest firmware .
we got an old D370 with HP-UX 11 but not 11i.

We have many D classes running HPUX11i however some do not support 64 bit kernel.

Re: Istall of HP-UX on a d320

Hi Dave,
Try to change the initdefault to 2 in /etc/inittab and reboot

If it works now you know you have a problem with something initialized in runlevel 3, that means look in /sbin/rc3.d and run them separately to see which one fails...

All the best

Hi Victor.

I should have mentioned before that im pretty new to HP-UX, so running stuff separately was just gone straight over my head.

Please could you expand on your solution

That error usually indicates that the network isn't configured, and therefor cannot bind those services to an interface. Either configure the network, or remove the samd entry from /etc/inittab.

Which services do you have listed in your rc3.d directory? This will help us to be able to tell you how to start each one manually.
