It is posible with different kind of hp-ux
Client: HP-Ux B.11.00 with an already installed ignite(B.3.3.116)
Server: HP-Ux B.10.20 with 3.7.95
It is posible to make that?
(I would refresh the 3.3.116 if that is the problem, but I can't download it from HP, maybe a firewall isue or hps...)

Re: It is posible with different kind of hp-ux
I would recomment to installe the same version, just to be sure that you can use the backup for anything.

Hi,
I don't have practical experience in such a scenario. Though I believe that Client's ignite version should not be a matter as long as you can connect from sever.
Good luck

If possible, I would make your 11.0 machine the server and your 10.20 machine the client. In this situation I would also try to download the latest version of Ignite (B.4.5 or B.5, I think).

Re: It is posible with different kind of hp-ux
I have heard (but not yet tested) that if you want to make_net_recovery from a higher OS you additionally have to install the ignite version of this OS at the server. So to make make_net_recovery of UX 11.00 you have to install Ignite 11.00 to your server with UX 10.20. Also you're running Ignite 10.20 at the server (yes, it sounds silly).
Maybe anyone can confirm this?

Volkmar

Re: It is posible with different kind of hp-ux
What you can't do is run 10.20 forever. Its day is done. I recommend upgrading Ignite on the 11.00 Server to the latest version 4.4.30
Then you can install a boot image for 10.20 to boot off of and rebuild those machines.
Long term, you gotta upgrade.
Ignite is a good tool for this task. You can make a base 11.00 image to use as an upgrade template for upgrading the other boxes.

Re: It is posible with different kind of hp-ux
11.0 is also getting old. It was first relased Nov 1997 and it will soon be obsolete and then unsupported. The recommendation is to install 11.11 (first released Dec 2002), also known as 11i. Before that, you must take an inventory of your entire system for programs and applications, then see if they are compatible with 11i. You'll need to read the Release Notes for both 11.0 an 11.11 (go to ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/sysadmin/ReleaseNotes/11.0/ which is an ftp site to download the files).
A major design change at 11.0 and higher is the addition of 64bit support for the kernel and programs. There are major enhancements to networking and security, but most important, version 11.0 is supported and you'll find a lot of free software from HP's website (software.hp.com) for 11.0 and higher.
