Re: Itanium

In this case you should give this information in the original thread. There are people who invested time to answer your questions and they are interested in some feedback, believe me.

However, if all that config stuff is ruled out, you should go ahead and log a hardware call with your local response center.

Best regards...
Dietmar.

Re: Itanium

Like the rest, I really do think that you should speak to your local response center. Tell them what the problem is, tell them what you have tried and ask them if they would be able to send you out another CoreOS CDROM. They should be able to do this for you.
Or, if you have access to the Software Update Manager on this site, you should be able to request the CoreOS CDROM from there. The link is
http://europe-support2.external.hp.com/swd/bin/doc.pl/sid=18a6aff00237ac0b27
or
Select "Maintenance & Support" from the top left hand side of this page. Under "Downloads/Licencing", select "Updates (software update manager" and select "Order software Updates".

Please be aware that ordering software updates online can take upto several weeks to be delivered. So speaking to your response center would be quicker.

Many thanks, Graeme.

Re: Itanium

Hi Robert-Jan,

I connected text terminal to the server instead of monitor for windows, so impossible to press "ALT-Q".
And the rest of your instructions were done already, and got the same prob.

Hi Graeme, Is it free?

Thank you all for your support.

Re: Itanium

Just to be 100% sure... you are using an ascii console attached to the serial port. And the console configuration is OK, according to the doc I posted to the other tread last week?

This is IMPORTANT, since the kernel only uses the correctly configured console path, while EFI and friends post their messages to all paths concurrently.

Re: Itanium

BTW, it's also important, which serial port you use. You should use the combi port on the management card, where you need an adapter from DB25 to Console/Remote/Ups.

Re: Itanium

Yes, you're right. I did it as your instructions that you sent on another thead. My cable is good oneand connected to console port.

Thanks.

Re: Itanium

To what console port? There is one called "Serial B" and one the combi port on the management card.

Re: Itanium

Hi Dietmar,

No, it's to Console/Remote/USP port, not Serial A. But actually I tried on this port (Serial A) and I got the same thing as C/R/U port.

Thanks and rgds.

Re: Itanium

OK, I digged a little bit deeper and this is what happens during bootup of 11.22 on Itanium2 systems.

If VGA is found in the EFI's console path config, then it's chosen as a default setting.

After this the serial path config is checked... if a valid one is found then (and only then) this serial path overrides VGA.

After this selection the kernel prints immediately things like "Console is on a Serial Device" or "Console is on VGA". As you don't see this message, I believe that your kernel chooses the wrong path.

From my point of view this are your options:

1) connect a VGA monitor to see if the console output goes to VGA - or

2) configure ONLY the MP serial port in EFI (see the doc I posted to the other thread). Be sure to confire the MP port as IN and OUT path. Clear "*" from all other options - or

3) try to interrupt the CD install routine, when it pauses for 10 seconds. At the prompt type:

hpux -uart2 IINSTALL

if that fails also, try the same with:

hpux -serial IINSTALL

Dietmar.

Re: Itanium

Hi Dietmar,

It's so great, prob solved.
The server can start at "hpux -uart2 IINSTALL" promt type. And I only unmark VGA.

Thank you very much, Dietmar.
This case close here.
Thank you everyone.
