J5600 to J6700 upgrade with Ignite

I have a J5600 which I would like to upgrade to a J6700 . I have a ignite image I have made from the J5600 and did an install on to the new box . Everything installed fine but when I try to boot the J6700 it crashes complaining about not knowing the cpu type .Is it even possible to get a working J6700 from a J5600 image , if so is there a patch I might be missing ? If not then I would assume I need to do the install from CD on this new box . If you have any information that might help , I would greatly appreciate it .

I believe your old J5600 might not have Hardware enablement patches enough to boot a J6700 system.

I think Sridhar has hit the nail on the head.

The J5600 has PA8600 processor and I think the J6700 has the PA8700 or PA8700+ processor in it.

The version of HP-UX you have on the J5600 probably doesn't know anything about the newer processor types. You might try installing the latest Hardware Enablement patches on the J5600, recreate your ignite tape and try installing the J6700 again.

Indeed, the J6700 has 750 MHz PA-8700 CPUs whereas the J5600 has 650 MHz PA-8600 CPUs. The J6750 has the 875 MHz PA-8700+ CPUs in it.

I'll concurr with the HWE patch suggestions. HP-UX gets rather grumpy when presented with a CPU type about which it has not been told.

You could load the latest HWE patches onto the 5600, then cut a new tape, then restore onto the 6700. Of course the PA-8700+ (875MHz) CPUs *require* 11i to run, so if you don't have 11i, your out of luck.
