J6000 and HPUX 10.20?

I just inherited an HP Visualize J6000 workstation (meaning, no documentation, no idea how large the drive, RAM, etc). It currently has 11.00 in it, but I need to completely bomb the hard drive and install a fresh OS copy since the machine was part of a cluster that no longer exists and the setup is too alien for to fix (faster to nuke it and start over).

I'm also in need to have HPUX box running 10.20. Will J6000 run with 10.20?

I have a December 1999 ACE version installer for 10.20 (and a downloaded CE and HW patches to update to 2001). will there be a problem if I first install the 1999 ACE version and then try to install the 2001 enhancements?

Re: J6000 and HPUX 10.20?

I guess it will work as long as you are using the june 1999 10.20 ACE version for 700 systems (workstations).

Hope this helps!

Wow. I searched earlier and couldn't find the information. I guess I'm not very good at keyword search...

Thank you! This is exact information I was looking for!

Re: J6000 and HPUX 10.20?

While, as previously pointed-out, the J6000 can run 10.20, I feel compelled to ask why you want to run 10.20 still. Is it a question of applications? Familiarity? Corporate mandate?

Re: J6000 and HPUX 10.20?

The reason why we're going to 10.20 is that this machine will be a replacement to a very very very old computer hardware that is about to die. J6000 is an overkill for the need, but that was what became available, so... we're not complaining :-)

the old box runs on 10.20, and thus all the software developed to run test equipment was developed under 10.20 (also using HP Basic, which we only have the 10.20 version accessible)

so, in the interest of minimal software re-hacking to get it to work with the new hardware, we wanted to keep as much the same as possible with the older computer, so the bugfixes associated with the computer upgrade will be kept down to a minimum, mainly because most of the people who wrote the software are not here anymore, so if things break, it will be a major effort for us to debug anything... (I'm certain there will be issues because of the use of GPIB, but... it'll be one variable less than if we upgraded also to 11.00)
