Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
I don't have a link but they are hot-plug. I have enoungh of these things that I change a drive every few weeks and never shutdown.

Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
That said, I've removed/added/swapped lots of them and only ever had one problem which was on a very busy server.
Regards,
John

Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
As above they are hot-plug. You will need to do a vgcfgrestore to get the LVM stuff back on it. If the system is mirrorred it will also re-mirror it.
I think the reason why they are hot-plug & not hot-swap is because it does not automatically put the disk structure back on the disk etc... For that type of thing you'll need an AutoRAID/fc60 etc....

Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
Though they are hot pluggable, I had problems with them couple of times. So, I would strongly suggest you do it during non-business hours.

Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
You can add disks to jamaicas online. They support hot-swap disks. Here is a link for more info,
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?locale=en_US&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=33739&prodSeriesName=hp+surestore+high-availability+storage+systems+%28ha
Here is the installation / service manual for the jamaica,
http://h200004.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg28396/lpg28396.pdf
Hope this helps.

Re: Jamaica Box and Adding disks
Of course you can But :
1. Jamaica ( or HASS : High Availability Storage System : ie. changed could be done online )is done to allow hot replacing disks but you may insure that no applications are accessing the disk(s) you plan to change.
In case that these disks in Jamaica are mirrored, you can do it but one by one.
2. In case that some applications are accessing this Jamaica, you need to stop them first ( ie. applications ) and do your disks change.
No problem at all.
Good luck.
