java consumes memory and in the top process
I have recently configured a VA7110 to my RP5470 box. Have installed the SDM command view. I find the java process is consuming more memory and is seen in the top process.
#what /usr/bin/top
/usr/bin/top:
$Revision: B.11.11_LR
Fri Oct 27 00:34:56 PDT 2000 $
#swlist |grep -i gold
GOLDBASE11i B.11.11.0112.6 Gold Base Patches for HP-UX 11i, December 2001
The recommended patch sets for Command View SDM is only the september 2001 gold patches.
I don't have glance plus or any other monitoring software installed.
#ps -ef |grep java
root 1539 1 0 22:38:16 ? 5:13 /opt/sanmgr/jre/bin/PA_RISC2.0/java -DHAGT=1 -cp classes/jcore.
root 25144 24619 0 09:36:35 ttyp1 0:00 grep java
I'm not swapping or facing any performance issues as of now. but it simply is using too much memory.
Any known issues??

Re: java consumes memory and in the top process
It is never a good idea to trust these tools always. i.e. top/sar/vmstats .... Why not get a glance evaluation copy downloaded ?.

Re: java consumes memory and in the top process
Thanks for the replies..
Elmar, As i have already mentioned, i have this java process coming in my top list only after i have installed the Command View SDM for managing my disk array.
What i feel from the ps -ef |grep java o/p is that it is managing some of the components of the disk array which might be java enabled. if i simply kill this process, i'll have still access to the filesystems on the Array, but my armdisocer and armdsp command gives errors.
then i have to do a ./opt/sanmgr/commandview/client/sbin/HA_Dial_stop and ./opt/sanmgr/commandview/client/sbin/HA_Dial_start to get those commands running again.
Please help me out...
Top says its consuming around 225MB of Memory.
and Kapil, I have already got my glance evaluation expired....bad luck!!!

Re: java consumes memory and in the top process
you can load this patch which is required by java 1.4 For SDM 1.07
PHCO_29960
This patch is a fix for performance issue of SDM.
Hope this solves your problem

Thanks for the replies.
I came to know that this is a very usual thing with CVSDM.
Thanks and Regards
