I have HP-UX 11.00 64 bit, running on PA-RISC 2.0. I need JDK 1.5 on this server. Problem is that packages provided at http://www.hp.com/go/java only match HP-UX 11i. It is told that it runs on both 11i and 11.00, but running swinstall ends on :
Could not apply the software selection "*" because there are no product variations that are compatible with the destination host(s).
Any solution ?
Thanks,
Fred

SolutionI don't there there is a solution other than compiling the source. I doubt that will work.
As far as I know however, HP-UX 11.00 64 bit used PA-RISC 1.1, not 2.0
So some of the information provided seems inconsistent.
I think the Java 1.5 code is PA-RISC 2.0 which would explain why it won't work on HP-UX 11.00 PA-RISC 1.1
Therefore upgrade of the OS is your only option.

Re: jdk1.5 for HP-UX 11.00
upgrade seems to be the solution as
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-6708/ch01s01.html
shows no JDK1.5 for 11.0 !

Re: jdk1.5 for HP-UX 11.00
grep $(model | cut -d "/" -f 3) /usr/sam/lib/mo/sched.models
L3000-8x 2.0 PA8700
So, it's PA8700 2.0... I thought it means PA-RISC 2.0, but now, I doubt. And I also doubt about compiling this :)
Peter,
There is a project to change this hardware. But it will take time, and I would have like to use JDK 1.5 before.
However, many thanks for this answers ! I will try to compile (OK, SEP, I'll let you know ;)). If any other Idea...

Re: jdk1.5 for HP-UX 11.00
you could try to install JDK 1.5 at a 11i ws, then copy the directory to your 11.0
Maybe it works

Re: jdk1.5 for HP-UX 11.00
The PA-RISC you refer to has to do with the hardware. Perhaps it means it CAN run PA-RISC 2.0
The OS can only run PA-RISC 1.1 compiled binaries.
I'm pretty sure about that. I'm a graduate of the school of hard knocks in this regard. I've never been able to even get a PA-RISC 2.0 app to compile on an 11.00 box.

Re: jdk1.5 for HP-UX 11.00
Are you talking about jdk or vmunix? 11.00 can support 2.0 code. And for 64 bit, it has to.
>Peter: http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-6708/ch01s01.html
shows no JDK1.5 for 11.0!
Is that only because it doesn't list any 11.00 since 11.00 is no longer supported?
>it's PA8700 2.0... I thought it means PA-RISC 2.0,
That's exactly what it means.
>SEP: The PA-RISC you refer to has to do with the hardware. Perhaps it means it CAN run PA-RISC 2.0
Can and does since Fred says it is 64 bit.
>SEP: The OS can only run PA-RISC 1.1 compiled binaries.
Not hardly, see below.
>SEP: I've never been able to even get a PA-RISC 2.0 app to compile on an 11.00 box.
You should have no problems provided you have a 2.0 CPU, PA8XXX. And you should be able to compile it, just not run.
$ model
9000/899/K570
$ file /stand/vmunix
/stand/vmunix: ELF-64 executable object file - PA-RISC 2.0 (LP64)
$ uname -a
HP-UX XXXX B.11.00 U 9000/899
