Re: Jetdirect install on configured system
The hardware address it is referring to is the IP address of the printer.

Re: Jetdirect install on configured system
Only if you have not configured the printer's IP address do you need the MAC (h/w) address. This is used when booptd/dhcpd is used to dynamically assign the IP address of the printer.
You need to set the IP address of the printer using the front panel and then execute hppi -> 1) Spooler Admin -> 1) Add printer to the local spooler or you can execute the addqueue command from the shell. Man addqueue for details.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Jetdirect install on configured system
You have to configure the printer's LAN card. HPPI only works with HP JetDirect LAN cards so if this is a non-HP LAN card, you can't use HPPI. For non-HP LAN cards, you need to configure the printer in SAM as a "remote" printer (not a network printer).
Configuring the LAN card in the printer very much depends on the printer model and the LAN card. Printers with front panel screens can configure the card. New LAN cards have a default address and you can use a web browser to talk to the card. Or the majority of HP LAN cards support telnet to configure the card. The printer's self test page will show you the current LAN address.
