jetdirect printers + firewall

Hi experts,

When placing a server with printers defined through hppi behind a firewall, you have to make some rules to let traffic through it. Which port(s) uses hppi to communicate with the printers in the network so we can adjust those in the firewall?
Thanks in advance!

Re: jetdirect printers + firewall

When you use hppi to add an HP JetDirect printer, port 9000 will be used for printing. If you use an external HP JetDirect box with 3 printer connections, ports 9000, 9001 and 9002 will be used. When you use hppi, it will also use SNMP requests to query the printer, but you can bypass this when adding the printer by telling hppi to continue even though it cannot contact the printer. Use the hpnpadmin command (all JetDirect commands are located in /usr/hpnpl/bin) to query the printer. When this works, you'll be able to add the printer and print to it.
