I'm updating an Oracle box this weekend from Online JFS 3.1 to OnlineJFS 3.3 layout 4. It's an N4000 6-way 440MHz running HP-UX 11.00 with 33 Oracle filesystems on a VA7100. The filesystems range in size from 1GB to 24GB.
After I've loaded B3929CA and enabled Online functionality with my codeword, can someone give me an idea of how long to expect the vxupgrade to take for a filesystem? I'm getting queries regarding how long the outage is going to be and having never done this conversion before, I don't have an answer.
Thanks!
Jim

Re: JFS 3.1 -> 3.3 vxupgrade times?
If You already loaded the JFS 3.3 product and the required patches on the box then you are almost done. The vxupgrade can be run online, on r/w mounted file systems!
Normally the job does not take too long, since its a straight-forward task. Sorry, I'm unable to tell an exact time frame... seconds to minutes usually.
Regards...
Dietmar.

Solution1) Make sure you're fully patched.
2) Make sure the FS that you're upgrading has some extra unused space.. (for example upgrading a 99% full FS is risky).

Re: JFS 3.1 -> 3.3 vxupgrade times?
Dietmar: Thanks for the insight.
S.K.: Right on the money, thanks! I'm starting at 22:00 Saturday, and now I know I can get done before the sun comes up Sunday.
Thanks again, everyone. The ITRC Forums rock!
Cheers,
Jim

Re: JFS 3.1 -> 3.3 vxupgrade times?
I have also done this vxupgrade on my system (>25 file systems in range of 70gb - 128gb). Each file system more or less took around 1 min.
Thanks.
Prashant.
