we are getting junk characters in a console while connecting to a hyperterminal
my inittab is corrupted how to recover it

Are you sure is corrupted? aren't you using incorrect baud rate and parity options in your terminal emulation software?

Using Hyperterminal you have to ensure that the baud rate and parity are set correctly. I am tempted to say 9600 8N1

Make sure you are using the correct settings in your terminal, emulation, etc....
