we are getting junk characters in a console while connecting to a hyperterminal

my inittab is corrupted how to recover it

To recover your inittab, you must restore from a backup, or you may copy it from another server.

Are you sure is corrupted? aren't you using incorrect baud rate and parity options in your terminal emulation software?

Are you in single user mode? Are the file systems mounted?

Using Hyperterminal you have to ensure that the baud rate and parity are set correctly. I am tempted to say 9600 8N1

You can ftp to another server and get it that way also....

Make sure you are using the correct settings in your terminal, emulation, etc....
