K360 system crash and /usr gets corrupted

Hi,

We have HP 9000 K 360 Server running HPUX 11.00 with September'2003 patches. Oracle version is 8.0.

During last one month, system hangs four times and even, we can not access from console. We had no option except control B and then RS.

On boot up, it is always observed that /usr gets corrupted and some oracle file systems as well.

Does any one has experienced similar problem. Or may be system require oracle related patches.

Pls advise.

Thanks in advance ..

Re: K360 system crash and /usr gets corrupted

Might be some hard disk problems.

DId you check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for any POWERFAILED messages on the hard disks.

Re: K360 system crash and /usr gets corrupted

Hi,

this could be a HW problem, try reading with dd all of your disks to verify they are OK:

dd if=/dev/rdsk/cXtYd0 of=/dev/null bs=1024k

start with the boot disk(s) and do that with all other disks and make sure you do not get an I/O error.

Re: K360 system crash and /usr gets corrupted

Hi,

any indications in /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log or in /var/tombstones/ts99 ts98
in /etc/shutdownlog
in dmesg ?

what were the recent changes before the system started hanging?

When it hangs, can you still ping it?

Bernhard

Re: K360 system crash and /usr gets corrupted

I would recommend you force a crash dump, i.e. do a TOC, and log a call with your local HP Response Centre to have the dump analysed.
