Patches are not that big deal. You need at least the Extension pack 9804 or newer
If you install 10.20 and more than one CPU you need PHKL_12514
You find the PDC under: Maintenance&Support -> Individual Patches -> Firmware Patches -> CPU patches -> PF_CMHK3912

The system has the patch and the PDC is 39.11.
But the problem is that, I want to install afresh HP-UX 10.20 on a new 9gb disk without restoring from a copy util tape. On scanning the new disk, my system times out and hangs.

this sounds more like a SCSI-Bus problem than a patch or firmware issue
Do you get any chassis code in the LCD display befor the install routine times out?
