keeping uname info when replacing a system board.

One of my FLEXlm license servers (C3000) has died. I believe I will need to replace the system board. Since FLEXlm uses the output of "uname -i" to encode thier licenses, is there a way I can keep this information when I put the system board in?

Re: keeping uname info when replacing a system board.

HP Engineers have access to a special utility (I think it is called SS_CONFIG), using which SPU ID of your system can be changed. Work with the HP HW engineer who is going to replace your system board.

Confirming Sundar is correct.

Only the HW CE has access to run SS_CONFIG to change the machine identifier. You will need to contact HP Hardware Support.

I thought it took an act of congress to get that done. Now I'm gonna have to check with our CE to see if they still do that.

Re: keeping uname info when replacing a system board.

The difficulty in getting the ID number set is that it is used (as in your case) for licensing, so only authorized HP service reps can change the value. If a system board is replaced, it must have the ID changed since most replacement boards come with a default value such as -1. HP will be glad to set the value, cost depends on whether it is under hardware contract.

I just checked with our HP CE, and he yes they do and I guess quite common during upgrades.

Several people on this thread had the correct solution which was:
