Would like to know about some of the important kernel parameters that need to be tuned in sybase and oracle environments and what the optimum levels would be, keeping an imaginary statistic(oracle and sybase versions, load, memory, number of users, file system size.,etc) as the base. Any particular problems faced and how they were rectified in this regard would be very significant.

Re: Kernal parameters for oracle and sybase.
Hi there.
Mainly the shared memory and the semaphore parameters need to be tuned.
If you need detailed info, pls let us know the
OS version, the Oracle version and soem details about the hardware, that you use.
That would help us to give you more specific info.
Rgds

Re: Kernal parameters for oracle and sybase.
hi,
major kernel parameters to be changed are semaphores and shared memory. don't try to install orcale of any version on any hp-ux version. oracle 8.0 and below works on hp-ux 10.2, 8i works only in 11.0 and 11i. oacle 8.0 wouldn't work in hp-ux 11.0 or 11i.
