Kernel parameters in 11.23 (PA-RISC)
Hi,
Anyone know if formulae have been removed in 11.23. The layout within SAM has changed in this release and doesn't appear to use them anymore or is it just me?
Thanks Barbara

Re: Kernel parameters in 11.23 (PA-RISC)
Shalom Barbara,
Experienced Syadmins like Bill Hassell have recommended for years not to use the forumulas in production. I've been overriding them on production systems for a few years now since Bill explained the reasoning during an HP World lecture.
They are limiting, and can keep you from raising needed parameters due to dependencies.
It may be that HP saw how the real world worked and removed the feature, which was in fact an inpediment in many cases.
I don't think its just you.
:-)

Re: Kernel parameters in 11.23 (PA-RISC)
Thanks Steven,
to be honest I don't use them myself anymore but they were sometimes handy for working out suggested settings...plus they look impressive in my build docs!!
Cheers Barbara

Re: Kernel parameters in 11.23 (PA-RISC)
Barbara -- This is indeed a change in behaviour although SAM is just adjusting to kmtune which does not save formula information.
So SAM will accept a formula, but will then evaluate it and send the actual value to kmtune as well as saving that actual value.
