Kernel Parameters: Part II

Another kernel question:

large_ncargs_enabled: what does this do? where is it documented?
args_max: how is this related to the above? you can't set args_max, right?

Is there a kernel "book" that has documentation on ALL kernel params? Or a HP kernel website or something. I got the online documentation from my last post, but that didn't include this parameter.

Scott:

A good starting point is:

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/content/KCparams.OverviewAll.html

You can also view SAM's documentation in the "kernel configuration" module.

Re: Kernel Parameters: Part II

The new tunable parameter large_ncargs_enabled has been
introduced to increase the default size of your environment
(the memory set aside to be your login environment - to hold
your PATH variable, etc.) from 20478 to 2048000 when it is
set to 1.

Thanks Brian/James,

No references though huh? Let me know if you know of any.

Re: Kernel Parameters: Part II

I have been unable to find any other sources for the kernel parameters. I found the large_ncargs_enabled parameter in document #:A5318414 at:
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/

Re: Kernel Parameters: Part II

James,

Where did you do that search to get those articles? I tried under the KB and put in large_ncargs_enabled under the HP-UX Software, but it just came up with PA articles, no EN articles and NOT ANY of the ones you linked to. Just trying to figure how to get around HP's site I guess. Thanks again guys.

Re: Kernel Parameters: Part II

This type of question has been in the forums several times. The links that James and Brian gave are probably the best available. Just not great. Some descriptions are adequate and others very vague.

HP, please come out with a comprehensive, understandable document. It used to be that we really did not want to play with the parameters very much. The defaults were pretty good. Now every third party application out there wants several parameters changed and sometimes they conflict with other applications on the box. It can be difficult to make a good decision. Again, HP, please help.

Make sure you are logged-in to the ITRC when you do your search! The results returned will be less, less useful, or null depending on this state.

The references I cited as examples were based on a KEYWORD search under HP-UX for "All Words".

Re: Kernel Parameters: Part II

I'm logged in to the ITRC. I go to Maintenance/Support, Search KB, HP-UX Software, and type in "large_ncargs_enabled" in the search box and it just comes up with PA docs......which have info, but are basically NOT what I'm looking for.
